How to Add and Edit Text in Adobe Illustrator

Adding Text

There are two ways to add text in Adobe Illustrator. The first is to use the Type tool, which can be found in the Toolbox. The second is to use the Text menu item in the Insert menu. We’ll cover both methods here.

Method 1: Using the Type Tool

To add text using the Type tool, simply click on the canvas where you want the text to appear. A text cursor will appear, and you can start typing. When you’re done, press Enter or Return on your keyboard to create a new line of text.

If you want to change the font, size, or color of your text, you can do so using the Character panel. To open the Character panel, go to Window > Type > Character. From here, you can change the font, size, tracking, leading, and color of your text.

Method 2: Using the Text Menu Item

To add text using the Text menu item, simply go to Insert > Text and click on the Text menu item. A text box will appear on your canvas. You can click inside the text box to start typing. When you’re done, press Enter or Return on your keyboard to create a new line of text.

5. Use the Type menu to adjust the wrapping options.

To create a text mask:

1. Select the text you want to use as a mask.

2. Select the Make Mask option from the Type menu.

3. Use the handles on the bounding box to adjust the placement of the mask.

4. Use the Type menu to adjust the masking options.

5. Drag the text to the shape you want it to be masked by.

6. Use the handles on the bounding box to adjust the placement of the text.

7. Use the Type menu to adjust the masking options.

Formatting text is important for two reasons:

There are a few basic things you can do to format text in Adobe Illustrator:

To change the kerning, select the text you want to change and then enter a new kerning value in the Character palette.

To change the tracking, select the text you want to change and then enter a new tracking value in the Character palette.

To change the baseline shift, select the text you want to change and then enter a new baseline shift value in the Character palette.
